BREAKING: FULL DETAILS - Pardoned Enrique Tarrio Arrested at Capitol Rally
Group Promoted Crypto and Called for Jan. 6 “Investigation”
For many Americans, the events of January 6, 2021, are etched in memory as a violent assault on democracy. Yet, for Enrique Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader convicted for seditious conspiracy over his role in the attack, the narrative remains something to be rewritten. On Saturday, Tarrio and a small group of supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., rallying under the banner of “truth” while simultaneously launching a new cryptocurrency.
The rally, reportedly peaceful, was held near the Capitol, where members of Tarrio’s group made bold claims about uncovering the so-called “real cause” of the January 6 insurrection. They argued that the official narrative is skewed and that a deeper investigation is needed—one that, conveniently, aligns with their version of events.
A Peaceful Rally Ends in Arrest
Despite the event remaining largely nonviolent, the situation took a turn when Tarrio was confronted by a counter-protester. As he was walking away from the rally, a woman reportedly held her phone close to his face—presumably recording or challenging him. In response, Tarrio struck the phone and made contact with her arm.
Capitol Police officers, who were observing the situation, acted swiftly. “Around 2:30 p.m., our officers witnessed a woman (a counter-protester) put a cellphone close to a man’s face, while they were both walking near Delaware Avenue, NE, and D Street. Then the officers witnessed the man strike the woman’s phone and arm. The woman told our officers that she wanted to be a complainant, and the man was arrested for the simple assault. The man has been identified as Enrique Tarrio,” the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) confirmed in a statement.
Tarrio was taken into custody and transported in a Capitol Police van. While simple assault is a relatively minor charge, the incident highlights the volatility that continues to surround figures like Tarrio, even when they attempt to stage seemingly peaceful events.
The Big Picture
Tarrio’s arrest serves as yet another reminder of the contradictions at play within the far-right movement. He and his allies speak of free speech and peaceful protest while engaging in intimidation tactics and, in this case, physical altercations. His involvement in the January 6 attack led to the longest prison sentence handed down to any insurrectionist, and yet he still seeks to paint himself as a victim rather than an instigator.
The attempted launch of a new cryptocurrency at the rally also raises questions about whether this is simply the latest scheme to exploit those who still believe the election was stolen. In recent years, various right-wing influencers have peddled everything from NFTs to fundraising scams under the guise of “patriotic resistance.” Whether this new venture gains traction or fades into obscurity remains to be seen.
One thing is clear: no amount of rebranding or financial opportunism can change what happened on January 6. And as Tarrio faces yet another legal battle—this time for a minor but symbolic act of aggression—his own attempts to rewrite history continue to unravel.
I’m sooo proud of her for standing her ground and speaking her truth. With his pardon, he must think he’s invincible.
He's a simple thug. He should be in jail.
