Stormy Daniels' Letter Backfires on Republicans
A letter reportedly authored by Stormy Daniels, in which she denied having had an affair with former President Donald Trump, resurfaced yesterday. The letter, which was dated January 30, 2018, contained the following statement:
"To Whom it may concern: Over the last few weeks I have been asked countless times to comment on reports of an alleged sexual relationship I had with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago. The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2017 and now again in 2018. I am not denying this affair because I was paid 'hush money' as has been reported in overseas owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened."
Despite the fact that the letter was composed prior to any charges against Cohen or Daniels' under-oath testimony to the contrary, certain outlets, including Fox News, presented it as potentially exculpatory for the former president.
It is also important to note that in August of 2018, Daniels discussed the matter with CNN's Anderson Cooper, where she admitted that the statement from January was "untruthful" and the claim that the affair never happened was "a lie."
During the interview with Cooper, Daniels stated that she had signed the aforementioned letter because she had been coerced to do so by her previous lawyer and business manager, who had "made it sound like I had no choice."
Cooper said: "You thought that there would be some sort of legal repercussion if you didn't sign it?"
Daniels replied: "Correct. As a matter of fact, the exact sentence used was, 'They can make your life hell in many different ways.'"
Stormy Daniels herself just took to Twitter to quash this notion that she never had an affair with Trump, sharing an image of her book and declaring, "This is not 'breaking news'...here it is in my book from 2018 and it was discussed multiple times on TV. That letter I was bullied to sign is what actually made me decide to finally come forward after years of threats."
As investigations continue into alleged payments made by Trump to silence Daniels about the alleged affair, the Manhattan DA remains focused on the former president.
