Having served in the Air Force for 28 years between 1972 and 2000, I do not think banning a news outlet is proper. During my time, race relations was the big issue in early 1970s and we had a lot of instruction in race relations but I’m not aware of any bans in place.
I think that a more appropriate action is to inform and instruct the troops that news outlets operate for money and have their own narratives to push. Most individuals are intelligent enough to know this.

Finally even though I flew B-52s and cleared in nuclear programs, I still subscribed to Soviet periodicals and news--I did have to report such contacts to Air Force counterintelligence.
